The Committee was established on 5 August, 1914 at the conference called by the Joint Board [comprising the Trades Union Congress, General Federation of Trade Unions and the Labour Party].
The Committee had representatives from every section of the Labour movement and helped to formulate common policies on a number of issues relating to the effects of war on working class living standards.
The Chairman of the WEWNC was Arthur Henderson, General Secretary of the Labour Party, until he joined the Government. |
