During the 1970s, unions gradually recognised their responsibility in fighting racial discrimination. In 1975, the responsibility for developing related TUC policy was moved from the International Department and both an Equal Rights and a Race Relations Advisory Committee were established. Campaigns against racism and racist organisations were organised, educational materials and other publications were published, including a Black Workers Charter in 1981. From 1985, the TUC held regular conferences on race relations, which from 1992 became formalised into the annual Black Workers Conference. This guidance to dealing with racism in the workplace was originally published in 2000. |
