Description
Summary:1948-03 1948 1940s 8 pages CONTRIBUTIONS PAID BEFORE 5th JULY, 1948 15. Do Health Insurance Contributions paid before 5th July, 1948 count? Yes. In deciding whether the contribution conditions are satisfied, any health insurance contributions paid or credited before 5th July, 1948, will be taken into account. 16. Is any title that I would have had under the old scheme affected? No. The contribution conditions set out in paragraph 5 are such that for a confinement after 4th July, 1948, you will get the Maternity Grant and in addition Attendance Allowance if at the time of that confinement either you or your husband fulfil the contribution conditions which would have entitled you to Maternity Benefit under the old scheme. If you were married before 5th July, 1948, but have not been married for two years when your baby is born, you may, if you were insured at the time of your marriage, be entitled to a Maternity Benefit of £2 under the old scheme even though neither you nor your husband satisfy the conditions for Maternity Grant, but you cannot get both. CLAIMANT OUTSIDE THE U.K. 17. What happens if I go abroad? If your baby is born in the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands you can still obtain payment of Maternity Grant and Attendance Allowance. If your baby is born elsewhere abroad but you are ordinarily resident in Great Britain or Northern Ireland you may appoint some one in those countries to receive payment on your behalf, otherwise payment will be suspended until you return. Maternity Allowance cannot ordinarily be paid for any period while you are abroad but special arrangements may apply in exceptional circumstances. Your local National Insurance Office will explain what these arrangements are. 7 21/3848
