THE ASSOCIATED CLINICS. The total number of cases seen at the Clinics during the year was 1,587 and of attendances 6,704, as against 995 and 4,729 respectively in the previous year. The increase was partly accounted for by the enlargement of D.A.C.A.'s area, 149 cases having been taken over in South-West Devon. A glance at the statistical table on page 23 will, however, indicate that on every Clinic register the number of patients has appreciably increased, and in some cases the work has in fact outgrown the accommodation available, thus throwing a considerable strain on the Staff, who carry on under difficulties. At Barnstaple the enlargement and re-arrangement of the premises, long awaited, has proved an immense benefit to all concerned, but at Exeter permanent quarters adequate to the size and importance of the Clinic have yet to be found and are being anxiously sought for. At Tiverton the situation has become really acute, but it is hoped that a solution of the difficulty is about to be arrived at. The Clinic at Launceston was opened in May and has had a flourishing career since, with Mrs. Galbraith as the Hon. Secretary. It is a matter of great regret that she finds it only possible to carry on for one year, but fortunately another lady is willing to learn the work under her with a view to succeeding to the post. At Kingsbridge the existing Clinic was transferred to D.A.C.A.'s administration in July, and grateful thanks are due to Miss Acton who, as County Health Visitor, had been in charge previously and gave most valuable help towards starting under new auspices. Mrs. Glanville, who kindly acted as Clinic Secretary at the start, had to resign on leaving the district, and Mrs. Roberts has been good enough to replace her. A number of Local Representatives have already been appointed and the formation of a District Committee is looked forward to early in the New Year. Miss A. N. Daukes has been appointed Clinic Secretary, South-Western Clinic, and with the assistance of Miss Lawry has given valuable service, while Mrs. Perry has done much to facilitate things by kindly becoming Central Representative for the Tavistock district. The total expenditure on the Clinic Account amounted to £1,938 6s. 3d., or an average of £1 4s. 5.1d. per patient per annum, as compared with £1 8s. 11.5d. per patient in the previous year, and the small deficit then shown has been replaced by a credit balance. Attendances at the Clinics clearly indicate that the possibilities which these offer are becoming more and more widely appreciated. 21
