The Boots, Splints and Appliance Workshop was running at a loss during the first part of the year, when it was in process of reorganization and much time was necessarily given to non-productive work. Latterly, however, it has been employed to capacity, and the turnover for the year amounts to £633 17s. 10d. as compared to £269 5s. 6d. in 1931. It was found necessary to instal [install] a skilled Supervisor in April, and this, whilst entailing considerable additional expense, has produced marked improvement in the standard of work turned out. In addition to D.A.C.A.'s own requirements a number of orders from other customers in the area have been executed to their satisfaction. The staff of disabled workers has made good progress and has been increased by one taken on at the request of Plymouth and District Cripples' Aid Committee. Another was employed temporarily but the work was found unsuited to his disability. 34
