Description

In a 96-hour fortnight, there should be an off-duty period daily, either morning, afternoon or evening. iv. Meals. The Domestic Adminsitrator [Administrator] should have one of the main meals of the day in company with executive and senior nursing staffs. The rest of the trained staff should have their meals in the dining room with the nursing staff. For non-resident staff a canteen should be installed. If the cafeteria system is in force, it is hoped that it will be possible for the trained staff to be waited on for at least one of the main meals of the day. Time to be allowed for meals:— Breakfast ... ... ½ hour Mid-morning break ¼ Dinner ¾ Tea ½ Supper ½ If an 8-hour day is in force, the staff should work the hours straight on end, but definite times should be laid down for meals. 3. Finance. (a) Salaries: i. All salaries for trained staff should be comparable with those of other professions, and that of the Domestic Administrator with that of the other executive officers. In fixing salaries, the standard of training required and the length of time spent on it should be taken into consideration. ii. There should be a minimum salary for each grade of work with annual increments on a definite scale. (b) Terms of Contract: i. Medical Examination: Before appointment all domestic workers in hospitals should have a medical examination, by either the hospital doctor or a doctor selected by the hospital. ii. Methods of Payment: Payment should be made privately and should be at not more than monthly intervals. iii. Allowances: A distinctive uniform and an annual allowance of uniform should be supplied by the employer. Allowances should include board residence, and laundry for resident staff, and meals and laundry of uniform for non-resident staff. Subsistence allowance should be paid to resident staff during holidays. 9 292/842/2/104
