iv. Night Work: Special attenion [attention] should be paid to the conditions and sleeping accommodation of night workers, who should receive special off-duty time, and extra pay when night-duty is permanent. v. Payment during Sickness: After a qualifying period of six months' service (exclusive of periods of sick absence) sick-leave on full pay should be allowed to a maximum of six weeks in any consecutive period of 12 months, provided that there is reasonable prospect, supported by medical certificate, of eventual recovery. After three years' service sick-leave should be allowed up to a maximum of eight weeks, and after ten years' service up to a maximum of thirteen weeks. Special cases should be considered by the Board of Management. vi. Sick Benefit: The custom established by tradition, whereby hospitals provided free medical attention for their domestic staff is a highly desirable one. If, however, under future conditions it is found impossible to continue this benefit, it should still be recognised that the welfare of the staff is the concern of the employer and every member of the household staff should be required to join a hospitals' saving scheme. vii. Superannuation: All workers should receive superannuation and the premium should be made returnable after five years. It is hoped that it will be possible for superannuation to be made transferable in all kinds of institutional work. viii. Retiring Age: This should be at 55 with a maximum of 60 years. 10
