The General Secretary, Trades Union Congress, Transport House, Smith Square, LONDON, S.W.1. [Stamp] 30 JUNE 1941 TRADES UNION CONGRESS Dear Sir, Hospital and Medical Services. I am desired by my Council to forward to you a copy of a resolution which was adopted at our last meeting in relation to the Hospital and Medical Services of the country. I think it has been definitely proved that the resources of the Hospitals have failed completely to meet the demands made upon the hospital services, and that the Report of the Hospitals Commission in 1937 (Chairman, Lord Sankey) clearly indicates the necessity of some drastic reorganisation and assistance to the hospitals if they are to render the best possible service to the community. Workers are being continually requested to increase their "voluntary" contributions to the hospital funds; and particularly at a time like the present there is a greater drain on the services of all hospitals and medical services, and in the hand to mouth struggle for finance it is impossible for the best service to be rendered to the community. In the national interests, therefore, it is hoped that the General Council will lend a sympathetic ear to our request and that they will do whatever lies in their power to secure the implementation of the resolution printed overleaf.
