Self-Sacrifice The key-note of the Nursing Profession is self-sacrifice, the most precious quality in human nature, and one much too precious to waste. But the appeal to self-sacrifice is too often a cloak which hides injustice, ignorance and inefficiency. Long hours, unnecessary restrictions, scamped and insufficient meals, "nagging" and bullying and lack of privacy mean .crifice of self-respect, and, worst of all, inevitably reduce the standard of work. [photograph] Be fair to yourself - and you will be fair to your Patients [photograph] Here are nurses paying tribute to Florence Nightingale who bravely fought prejudice and ignorance in high places. Her lamp — which is one of the outstanding symbols in our nation's history — is still alight. Will you follow its gleam?
