2. Objects. The main objective of the Federation is to scientifically approach the subject of the organisation of Public Health and Public Assistance employees, leading to 100 per cent. organisation in every hospital, institution and department. It visualises that the ultimate development of these services must lead to further centralisation, possibly in the creation of a State Health Service, and for that reason it is essential that those engaged in such services should NOW commence to establish an efficient organisation machine to be competent to safeguard every kind of interest in the transitional stages of centralisation, and to ensure that in the final analysis the terms and conditions of service shall be commensurate with the qualifications, duties and responsibilities. Thus the Federation creates in the first instance a unity of purpose and objective, and the vital fact must not be overlooked that the Federation, as a professional and vocational organisation, has no other interest to serve but that of its members in the ONE particular service. It therefore sets out with the following aims :— (1) The elevation of the status of its professional and semi-professional members. (2) The improvement of standards of remuneration and conditions of service. (3) The establishment of a more efficient negotiating machine. (4) The scientific planning of control through conciliation machinery. (5) The adequate and eflicient legal defence of members in all cases of emergency. Remember - UNITY DENOTES STRENGTH. 3. Who Can Join ? For the time being the central office at 38, Argyle Square, London, W.C.1, becomes a clearing house. Write, stating the nature of your employment and your hospital, institution or department, and you will be put into touch with your appropriate section. For example : (a) Mental trained Nurses (male and female) will be attached to the Mental Hospital and Institutional Workers' Union. (b) Women Health Visitors, Sanitary Inspectors, Tuberculosis Visitors, School Nurses, Municipal Midwives and Clinic Nurses, etc., will be attached to the Women Public Health Officers' Association.
