31 LEAVE. (a) ANNUAL LEAVE. Annual leave is granted as follows:— Matrons: Six weeks per annum. Assistant matrons and charge sisters: Five weeks per annum. Nursing sisters': Four weeks per annum. Assistant nurses: Fourteen days during each six months. (5) "OFF-DUTY TIME." (i.) Matrons' and charge sisters are allowed "off-duty time" of three hours daily and one half-day weekly from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and a week-end per month from Saturday, 2 p.m., to Sunday, 10 p.m. The weekly half-day may be taken on Monday until 12 noon, if desired, provided that the exigencies of the work permit. (ii.) Nursing sisters and other ranks will be allowed "off-duty time" of three hours daily and one half-day weekly, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and one whole day per month, from 0 p.m. on one day to 10 p.m. on the day following. In addition, the staff as in both (i.) and (ii.) may be allowed two nights off-duty each month, provided that the exigencies of the work permit. (c) SPECIAL LEAVE. The superintendent, on the recommendation of the matron, may grant special leave with pay in cases of urgent domestic affliction, etc. (d) SlCK LEAVE. The period during which pay may be continued during absence from duty on account of sickness is as follows: — During any period of twelve months. When the sickness is certified by the regular Medical Authority as due to service 91 days When the sickness is not caused by service 31 days The ordinary deduction is at the rate of 2s. a day (including Sunday) for any period of absence less than one week, and 12s. for an absence of a complete week. The modified deduction is at the rate of 1s. 3d. a day (including Sunday) for any period of absence less than one week, and 7s. 6d. for an absence of a complete week. BOARD OF CONTROL. The staff employed by the Board of Control are attached to State mental institutions, namely, the "Rampton" State Institution and the "Warwick" Temporary State Institution. The staff of the former consists of one matron, one head nurse, seven charge nurses, and 37 nurses; and at the latter are employed one matron-in-charge, four charge sisters, and ten nurses. The salaries at "Rampton" are: — Matron, 52s.-2s.-62s.; head nurse, 44s.-1s.6d.-47s. a week; charge nurse, 32s. 6d.-1s. 6d.-38s. 6d. a week; nurses, 24s.-1s.-28s. 6d. a week, rising after a further ten years' service to 29s. 6d. Additional allowances are given to nurses when acting as deputy-charge officers.
