30 HEALTH AND CLEANLINESS a motive for cleanliness of the mouth and teeth and nose. Neglect of teeth or hair will be obvious to the teacher, who can deal with it by the same means as those he uses in dealing with neglect of the hands and face. [Image with caption: A good wash before using the swimming bath helps everyone to be healthier] Reproduction of Health and Cleanliness Council's Poster (P. 78), in red, blues, and white, 30" x 20". This poster was specially designed for use in swimming baths, and has been in great demand. Further reasons for the care of the mouth and teeth* will appear when lessons in nature study and physiology introduce the pupil to the facts of digestion, and he realises that the mouth is the gateway of the whole digestive system. Studies in chemistry will make clear that harm is done to the enamel of the teeth, composed of calcium carbonate, by the accumulation of acid in the mouth fluids. Here again, as in the case of the first group of lessons, * The Dental Board of the United Kingdom, 44, Hallam Street, London, W.1., publishes leaflets, posters, etc., on dental hygiene.
