Description
Summary:1938-03 1938 1930s 69 pages : illustrations EIGHTH GROUP OF LESSONS CLEANLINESS OF BEDCLOTHES AND LINEN SYLLABUS Cleanliness of bedclothes and bedding. Washing of bedclothes. Drying in sun. Need for plenty of water and repeated rinsings. Airing. Everything on bed should be washable, and washed at proper intervals. Cleanliness of house and table linen. NOTES ON METHOD The material of this section is likely to be of greater value to girls than to boys. Its full treatment, as a general rule, will be taken in housecraft lessons and domestic science courses which, particularly since the advent of electrical equipment, are increasingly being conducted on labour-saving lines. Boys will learn of it in connection with other lessons of this series. Perspiration goes on at night as well as during the day, and heavy, thick bedclothes increase the rate of perspiration. Bedding necessarily becomes impregnated with perspiration if it is in sufficient quantity to make the body hot, and the reason for the objection to contact with perspiration has been dealt with in other lessons. Boys might be encouraged to sleep with a minimum of bedclothes, and will find, in practice, that sleep in such conditions is far more refreshing. The tendency of dirty bedding to harbour parasites might be dealt with — either separately, or as an appendix to what has already been said of these creatures. 59 177/5/8/3
