Secretary's WMC/FEM/MT/29 15th September, 1938. Mr. A.E. Boswell, 56, Westcotes, COVENTRY. Dear Mr. Boswell, I was very sorry indeed to get your letter of the 13th September and to hear that your son had been killed in Spain. Please accept my deepest sympathy in your loss. I notice that you have written to the "Spanish Dependants Aid Committee" who replied that they were not in a position to assist new cases and that you have written to Mr. Pollitt for a little assistance to enable your family to get some black clothes but have received no reply. The position is that our International Solidarity Fund, through which we send relief to Spain, is run by the International Federation of Trade Unions and Labour and Socialist International. All the money is being spent on the relief of suffering in Spain by food, medical supplies, the running of a hospital, etc. I think the best thing I can do is to write to the Spanish Ambassador giving him particulars of your case, but in the meantime, can you tell me anything about the Union to which your son was attached.
