Organising Secretary: GEORGE JEGER, J.P. 24 NEW OXFORD STREET W.C.1 Telephone: HOLburn 1866 0605 5th August, 1937. Dear Friend, ANNIVERSARY MEETING. August 23rd will be the anniversary of the departure of the 1st British Medical Unit for Spain. During the year that has passed, the small hastily organised and equipped Unit has grown into a large medical organisation with 5 hospitals, nearly 50 ambulances and vehicles and a personnel of over 80. Its work has earned appreciation and praise all over Spain. Unfortunately we have not been free from casualties. Several of our people - men and women - have been wounded; 5 gallant men have been killed. A meeting to mark our anniversary and to commemorate those who gave their lives for Spanish Democracy will be held on MONDAY, 23rd AUGUST, AT THE FRIENDS' HOUSE EUSTON ROAD, N.W.1 AT 8PM. We want this meeting to be as representative as possible and we aim at making it a gathering of friends and supporters of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee rather than an ordinary public meeting. We would, therefore, be particularly pleased if you could manage to come, in view of its special significance. We are reserving a number of seats (free) and shall be glad to send you some on request. Yours sincerely, George Jeger Organising Secretary. 292/946/42/119
