Description
Summary:034-0173-001 Scottish Trades Union Congress General Council. William Elger. J.P. Secretary. Phone: Central 3179 33 Elmbank Crescent, Glasgow. October 27th. 1937. Mr. H.V. Tewson, Assistant Secretary, The Trades Union Congress, Transport House, London, S.W.1. Dear Mr. Tewson, I have received a letter from a Mr. J.E. Paterson of 595, Main Street, Bellshill, Lanarkshire, who wishes to discuss with me matters concerning the International Brigade Dependents' and Wounded Aid Fund. Mr. Paterson encloses with his letter a note from Mrs. Charlotte Haldane, who states that he had been appointed to represent the Committee in Scotland "and will be responsible for the work of raising funds to assist the wounded and dependants of the men of the British Battalion of the International Brigade". Before I see Mr. Paterson I shall be glad if you will let me know what the position of your General Council now is with regard to the International Brigade. I am not forgetting the contents of your letter dated June 23rd (Ref. WMC/HVT/EK/1139) but I am wondering if the position has changed since then. I think you said that it had recently been under discussion. Yours truly, Wm. Elger Secretary. 292/946/34/173
