Description
Summary:034-0174-001 HVT/FC/22. Secretary's. 23rd October, 1937. Mr. J. Wolstencroft, Jr., Secretary, The Ashton-under-Lyne, Stalyfridge, Dukinfield & District Trades & Labour Council, The Shelter, Rose Hill, ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE. Dear Mr. Wolstencroft, INTERNATIONAL BRIGADE. I have your letter of the 21st instant regarding the appeal from the International Brigade Wounded and Dependent's Aid Fund. I may say that the question as to whether the monies of the International Solidarity Fund raised for the assistance of workers in Spain should be used to assist dependents of the British Section of the International Brigade, but finally it was felt that as our Fund has been raised specifically for the Spanish workers the proposal could not be accepted. It is known, however, that in many cases the dependents of Trade Unions who have gone to Spain have received assistance through the voluntary collections of members of their branches. Yours sincerely, Assistant Secretary. 292/946/34/174
