PRESENT: Mrs. Leighton (in the Chair), Miss Adam, Mrs. Attlee, Miss Colman, Miss Elliott, Mrs. Gould, Mrs. Greenwood, Mrs. Hastings, Mrs. Middleton, Mrs. Shepherd and Miss Sutherland, (Secretary). APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE: Apologies for absence were received from Lady Marley and Mrs. Rackham. MINUTES: The Minutes of the last meeting, held on November 25th.,1937., which had been circulated, were confirmed and signed. SECRETARY'S REPORT: (a) Finance. The Secretary reported that the total income to date was £1,497-18-2d. and the balance in hand, £18-4-1d. This amount was, however, already overspent in orders for wool from the C.W.S. for various Knitting Committees. (b) Purchase and Distribution of Wool: Wool had been supplied to some Committees throughout the early months of this year and since the summer holidays a considerable number had restarted and received wool, all of which had been purchased from the C.W.S. at cheap rates. In addition to Women's Sections, a number of Leagues of Youth had set up Knitting Committees and there was no doubt that many other Sections and Leagues would be willing to help in the work if funds were available for purchase of wool. (c) Despatch of Garments: The total number of garments despatched was now in the neighbourhood of 50,000, four consignments having been sent since the last meeting. In addition some hundreds of garments had been sent to the Basque Children's Committee. (d) General: The Secretary stated that Mrs. Adams de Puertas who had been responsible for organising a good deal of the relief work under the International Solidarity and Milk for Spain Funds, had stressed the desperate need for large numbers of childrens garments, particularly outer garments. The International Solidarity Fund was continuing to send consignments of food, etc., The Party's Spain Campaign Committee had decided on a special Christmas Appeal and a Christmas Card was also going to be issued. APPEAL for FUNDS: It was AGREED that an appeal for donations to the Wool Fund should be made to a number of large Unions, including the A.E.U., the N.U.G.M.W., the N.U.D.A.W., and the M.F.G.B.: that all the larger Co-operative Societies should be asked for gifts of money and/or wool; and that a request should be made to the International Solidarity Fund for a further grant. Several members of the Committee also undertook to approach various shops with a request for gifts of wool or garments. PUBLICITY; It was AGREED that a further attempt to get publicity for the work of the Committee in the "Herald" and other newspapers should be made. THIS CONCLUDED THE BUSINESS.
