Dear Mrs. Manning, I received your letter of the 9th October to-day, and I am enclosing you the envelope so that you may see that it is not my fault. First. C.W.S. and GUARANTEE, on behalf of the National Trade Union Club. I note the letter of the C.W.S. Society as Bankers re their non-acceptance of the guarantee given by the Spanish Medical Aid Committee, and that they will only consider personal guarantors. As far as I can see therefore the matter is a simple one, that I should give the guarantee as an individual to the C.W.S. Bank for the National Trade Union Club, and that the Spanish Medical Aid Committee Trustees should indemnify me as an individual against giving the guarantee on their behalf for the Club. I think this is the way round and I see no difficulty about it. I note your observations about Gustave, and don't you think in the special circumstances of the case we might make him a small grant while the British Committee makes up its mind about clothes.
