Description
Summary:C02-0020-001 Telephone: Maida Vale 1384. 4, Aberdare Gardens, Hampstead, LONDON, N.W.6. 22nd February, 1940. Mr. Wilfrid Roberts, M.P., House of Commons, WESTMINSTER, S.W.1. Dear Mr. Roberts, Spanish Medical Aid Trustees. I have heard through Mrs. Manning of some apparent disquietude in your mind as to the work and help that the Spanish Medical Aid Trustees are now able to render to the Committees under your wing in their work for refugees. I have also seen the correspondence which has passed between the Secretary of the Trustees, Mrs Jeger, and Mrs. Manning's letter to you. As Chairman of the Trustees, therefore, and as former Chairman of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee, I am writing to ask you if you have any doubts or difficulties as to whether the Spanish Medical Aid Commitee has done all it could, I will be very pleased to hear from you and to know exactly what are your feelings and attitude on this subject. As you know, the Spanish Medical Aid Committee was formed with definite terms of reference, and on its dissolution its work was handed over to a body of three Trustees. I have been Chairman both of the Committee since its inception and of its Trustees, and we have always taken a very serious view of our responsibilities and have done all we possibly could within our terms of reference. I have also looked up the file of the correspondence with some of the Committees under your jurisdiction, and really I hope you will pardon me if I say I will be very much obliged if you can tell me in what respect the Committee has failed, having regard to its terms of reference, to help you and your Committees in any way that is possible. Yours faithfully, Chairman of the Trustees. Spanish Medical Aid Committee. 292C/946/2/20
