Description
Summary:C02-0062-001 Dr. H.B. MORGAN. MR. W. GILLIES. Social Insurance. 24th June, 1938. SPANISH DEMONSTRATION, 17.7.38. With reference to your query as to the Spanish Demonstration to be held on the 17th July, all I know is that on Wednesday of last week a request was submitted from the Spain Emergency Committee, which is one of those ad hoc Committees which spring up with regard to Spain and which ran the special Spanish Conference held at the Queen's Hall combining all parties, about four weeks ago, in which we were asked as the Spanish Medical Aid Committee to take part in the Demonstration to be held in Trafalgar Square on the 17th July, and in the submission was a request that I should be one of the speakers. I had another engagement and could not accept, and therefore the Committee agreed to support the Demonstration and appointed as it speakers at the demonstration (1) Dr. S. Jeger, and (2) Lord Faringdon. I was not present at the Committee meeting last Wednesday, as I was attending the Trade Union Approved Societies' Conference at Eastbourne, but I have telephoned to-day to the Spanish Medical Aid Committee, and the position is as I have reported it.
