Description
Summary:037-0017-001 HVT/FC/EK/270. Secretary's. 29th November, 1937. Mrs. C. Chapman, Dundee Basque Children's Committee, 94, Ellengowan Drive, DUNDEE. Dear Mrs. Chapman, BASQUE CHILDREN. I have your letter of the 26th instant and note the contents. It seems to be clear from our correspondence that the Dundee Trades and Labour Council declines to support your local Committee and we could not, of course, act on your suggestion of sending their contributions to your Committee except on the authority of the Council concerned. You will appreciate that whatever the difficulties may be in regard to their non-co-operation if we were to act without their authority the likelihood would be that the source of income to our fund would be cut off. In addition, of course, we have our commitments from a national point of view and are participating in the work of the National Committee. I am afraid that, under the circumstances, we could take no action in regard to further contributions in the absence of any arrangement made in the locality between your Committee and the Trades and Labour Council. Yours sincerely, Assistant Secretary. 292/946/37/17
