International 14th July, 1936. Senor Francisco Largo Caballero, Union General de Trabajadores de Espana, Fernandez de la Hoz, 51, MADRID. Dear Comrade Caballero, POSITION OF CREW OF S.S. "EOLO" We have received from our Trades Council at Aberdeen in Scotland a letter containing information which they wish communicated to your colleagues in reference to the strike on the Spanish ship "Eolo". We could not find an opportunity of speaking to you at the Congress, and therefore are sending it to you by air mail so that you can give it to the Spanish Seamen's Union to secure the necessary information. The letter is as follows: "Your countrymen who man the S.S. 'Eolo' are somewhat perturbed at their position. The ship is on temporary charter and they maintain that unless the ship is within Spanish waters within the prescribed period, that is, six months from the commencing of the charter, they shall have forfeited all claim to their wages. The charter commenced on January 15, 1936. You will therefore see that very little time is left. I may add that they have been on strike for over a month. I would be glad if you could acquaint your countrymen if this is correct or otherwise." Yours faithfully, General Secretary.
