Description
Summary:1940-12-02 038-0038-004 COPY. WP/LN/20 December 2nd, 1940. Sir Walter Citrine, Trades Union Congress, Transport, Smith Square, London, S.W.1. Dear Sir Walter, re Spanish Refugee Children. I have received from our Mr. J. McKenzie, District Secretary at Glasgow, copy of letter from Miss Margaret Halliday appealing for financial support on behalf of some 400 to 500 children still in this country, whose parents are political refugees or serving sentences, or even dead. Special appeal is made in respect of the Basque Home at Barnet which was recently bombed. In conmon with other Unions, we contributed generously to the Fund to help the Spanish people, and I shall be glad to know if there is any surplus of this Fund from which a grant could be made to the Central Body responsible for these children. An early reply will oblige. Yours sincerely, ( Sgd ) CHAS. DUKES, General Secretary. 292/946/38/38(IV)
