Description
Summary:017a-0003-001 EXTRACT FROM INTERNATIONAL CTTEE MINUTES 20th December, 1938. 15. JOINT MEETING OF THE I.F.T.U. AND L.S.I., 25th NOVEMBER, 1938. A report (see attached) was submitted of this joint meeting, held on the 25th November, 1938, to consider (a) the situation in Spain, and (b) World Peace Campaign. The report was ACCEPTED, but the Committee expressed the fear that the present atmosphere in France was unfavourable to carrying out the intended international deputations. On this subject Mr. Hallsworth handed to the Chairman of the Committee a communication dated 16th December, addressed to him as the President of the General Council, from the French T.U.C. This suggested that in view of the international situation, a meeting should be held at the beginning of January between their Executive and the General Council, for an exchange of views which might lead to the elaboration of measures of joint activity within the framework of the I.F.T.U. and in collaboration with the A.F. of L. The C.G.T. left it to the T.U.C. to decide whether the meeting should be held in Paris or London. The Committee DECIDED to refer this matter to the consideration of the General Council. 292/946/17a/3
