I am enclosing a letter which has been sent to us by the person who received it who queries the authenticity of the appeal. I have no knowledge of the National Council of Labour having asked anyone to appeal for funds in this way. It may well be that the person concerned (whose name I cannot make out) is working with the very best intentions. I should be glad if you could let me have any information in regard to the individual concerned and, if you know the person, point out to him that whilst we appreciate his interest the procedure is likely to cause confusion if his letter goes to others in a very small personal circle. It is certainly inadvisable to send such an appeal to persons who do not know him and, altogether, we would prefer contributions to be sent to this office. Probably you could see the person concerned and deal with the position as tactfully as possible. It would also be helpful if you could let us know the name of the person who sent the letter in order that we can trace any amounts which might come from him. I should be glad of your early reply and will you please return the enclosure with your letter. Yours sincerely, Joint Secretary. letter.
