Description
Summary:012a-0092-001 Mr Tewson MADRID, May 1, 1938. To the British Labour Party. Dear Comrades, In this desperate struggle which we are carrying on against those who, incapable of being guided by reason, resort to arms in order to destroy the work which by the elections of February 16, the Spanish people demanded should be carried out, i.e., the putting into practice, in its entirety of the Constitution legally approved by the sovereign will of the people represented in the Cortes Constituentes which followed the Proclamation of the Republic, a Proclamation, which proved to the world the social education of the Spanish people, we send you our greetings and thanks for the work which you are carrying on in your country on behalf of the democratic Republic. We regret that the people in a country like yours, the cradle of Democracy, should still be doubtful about the aims which we are pursuing. We hope, however, that your Party, representing the spirit of the British workers, will continue to work towards the end that we may receive justice. The staff of the Printing Office of the Safety Corps (Uniformed group), greets you on this memorable day and declares that any international action whatsoever hostile to the destiny of our country, to-day represented by the Government of the Popular Front, will not lessen our enthusiasm to fight to the death to expell international Fascism from our native land. Long Live Democratic Britain! Long Live the British Labour Party! Long Live a Spain free from foreign interference! 292/946/12a/92
