Foreign Office, S.W.1. (C 268/191/41) 15th January, 1942. Confidential My dear Citrine, In my letter of the 1st December last I told you that I was bringing the case of Largo Caballero to the notice of His Majesty's Ambassador at Washington. 2. I have now received a report from Lord Halifax stating that he has learnt from the United States authorities that the United States Government took up the case with the Vichy Government some weeks ago and obtained an assurance from them that Largo Caballero would not be extradited to Spain. So far as the United States Government are aware there have been no further developments since that time and they hope that the proposal to extradite him has been dropped. Yours sincerely Anthony Eden The Right Honourable Sir Walter Citrine, K.B.E.
