"EUZKO-LANGILE-BATZA" (Basque Trade Union Organisation) Sand Dene, Somerset Road, Meadvale Redhill, Surrey. 30th April, 1941. The Trades Union Congress, Transport House, Smith Square, S.W.1. Dear Sirs, As President of the Basque Trade Union Organisation, I wish, on this eve of Labour Day, to express to you the support and admiration of the Basques, who have fought and died for the same principles for which the workers of this country are to-day making such magnificent efforts and costly sacrifices. In common with British Labour, we are confident in the ultimate victory of the cause of democracy, and look forward to the establishment of a better world, with improved social conditions for the individual and justice and freedom among the nations. At the same time, I should like to take this opportunity of conveying to you the gratitude of all Basque workers for the kindness and generosity shown by the British Trade Unions towards the Basque sailors, who had taken refuge in this country at the end of the Spanish Civil War. Thanks to the help given them, they are now nearly all once more playing their part in the fight for democracy. Pedro de Ormaetxea President.
