Description
Summary:013-0113-001 INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE MINUTES - 23RD JANUARY, 1940. 16. FOREIGN OFFICE - SPANISH TRADE UNION LEADERS. A request had been received from Spanish refugee trade union leaders in Paris and London to see the Foreign Office Secretary, with a view to his using his influence to save the lives of certain trade unionists in Spain and also to put a stop to the savage methods of repression now being carried on there. Lord Halifax had promised help, and although not optimistic at the present stage, was hopeful that later, as things were moving slowly in our favour, the Spanish Government would be more ready to listen to representations from this country. IT WAS DECIDED that a suitable reply be sent expressing appreciation of the position. 292/946/13/113
