Chief Inspector, Immigration Branch, Home Office, London, S.W.1, and the following reference quoted: Gen. 35/17/47. JBL. IMMIGRATION BRANCH, HOME OFFICE. 4th April, 1940. Sir, With reference to the cases of Spanish Seamen for whom the T.U.C. has accepted responsibility, and particularly to those comprised in the list kindly furnished to this Department on the 21st December under your reference HVT/AC/66, I am to say that as regards such of these men as were last granted permission to land in this country before the 3rd September, 1939, there is no objection to their remaining until further notice, and their passports or Certificates of Registration with the Police need not again be sent to this Department unless asked for. In this connexion I am to refer you to Statutory Rules and Orders 1939 No.1659. Any of these men who may have left this country and have again been granted permission to land on some date later than the 3rd September, 1939, will remain fully subject to any condition imposed upon such later landing unless an endorsement amending that condition has been made by this Office. I am, Sir Your obedient Servant J.B.Luzmore The Assistant Secretary, Trades Union Congress, Transport House, Smith Square, S.W.1.
