Description
Summary:027-0047-001 Spanish Refugees: General International. HVT/AC/37 6th November, 1939. Mr. J. B. Luzmore, Immigration Department, Home Office, WHITEHALL. S.W.1. Dear Sir, MANUEL de SASIETA As we informed you on the telephone this morning, we have been approached on behalf of the above, a refugee of Spanish origin, who has been offered employment with the Irish Iberian Trading Company, of Dublin, to act as their selling agent in Tangier. He has no valid passport, and is unable to secure one from the present Spanish authorities, as he was an officer on the other side. He wishes to apply for a document of identity, which will enable him to travel to Tangier, and to return to this country in four to six months' time. I am enclosing application form, two copies of a photograph, Police Registration Certificate, and a postal order for 7/6 as required. I am also attaching a letter of explanation from the applicant himself, his letter of engagement from his employers, and a non-valid passport. We shall be very grateful if you can arrange for the issue of a document, as the man is highly recommended to us. As you are aware, Mr. Sasleta wishes to leave on a boat which sails from Dublin on Thursday next, 9th instant, and if it is possible for you to overcome the difficulties in the way of the completion of the necessary formalities, so as to facilitate this, it will be greatly appreciated. Yours faithfully, Assistant Secretary. 292/946/27/47
