Description
Summary:029-0039-001 HVT/FC/165. Secretary's. 17th January, 1938. Mr. E. Winstanley, The Co-operative Wholesale Society Ltd., 1, Balloon Street, MANCHESTER, 4. Dear Mr. Winstanley, FOOD FOR SPAIN, Referring to the consignments of food which we despatched to Barcelona on board S.S. HARTBRIDGE and S.S. DELLWYN, I have your accounts including insurance, dock and loading charges, etc., making a total of £2,050.11.10d. I have pleasure in enclosing cheque for this amount for which I shall be glad to have your receipt in due course. In regard to the despatch of the sugar and meat cubes I have been in touch with the Secretary of the International Solidarity Fund in Paris and have asked for his suggestions as to how it might be possible for the goods to be sent overland from Bordeaux or some other French Port. As soon as I have any concrete suggestions to make in regard to this matter I will communicate witn you again. In the meantime, of course, if any satisfactory offer of a boat comes to your notice I take it you will drop me a line. It does seem, however, that with the heavy insurance charges and the delay, it is as well to make enquiries such as I have made in regard to alternative transport. Yours sincerely, Assistant Secretary. Cheque. Accounts. 292/946/29/39
