Description
Summary:032-0100-001 SPANISH RELIEF COMMITTEE under the auspices of the STANDING JOINT COMMITTEE OF INDUSTRIAL WOMEN'S ORGANISATIONS TRANSPORT HOUSE, (South Block), SMITH SQUARE, LONDON, S.W.1. Chairman: Mrs. H. T. Leighton Secretary: Mary E. Sutherland, J.P. Victoria 9434 13th February, 1939. Mr. H. V. Tewson, Trades Union Congress General Council, Transport House, Smith Square, S.W.1. Dear Mr. Tewson I promised to let you have a note about the position of our Knitting Fund. When our accounts are paid up we shall be in debt to the extent of £47. Since the middle of December we have spent nearly £300 on wool. That includes £100 received from the International Solidarity Fund, £100 from the Miners' Federation of Great Britain, and sums which I have raised in response to my "Labour Woman" appeal, and roughly £27 raised by raffling some Spanish embroidery etc. given me by Mrs. Adams de Puertas. At present we have applications for wool from Local Committees which would come to about £100. Wool is being knitted up rapidly and garments returned in the minimum of time. Yours sincerely, Mary E. Sutherland, Secretary. 292/946/32/100
