Description
Summary:032-0144-001 Secretary's. HVT/FC/EK/571. 11th January, 1939. Mr. W. Schevenels, International Federation of Trade Unions, 9, Avenue D'Orsay, PARIS VIIe. Dear Mr. Schevenels, GOODS FOR SPAIN. I have received a letter from the Co-operative Wholesale Society in connection with the matter upon which I wrote you yesterday. It appears that the hold up of goods for Spain refers only to the last large consignment which was sent consisting of dried cod, soap, biscuits and cod liver oil, which is held at Cerbere. I understand that the C.W.S. have communicated with Santiago direct on this matter and this action appears to be a little beyond their function. My only purpose in writing is to make more clear my letter of yesterday when I was not aware whether it was at Rouen or at Cerbere where the goods were held up. I take it that owing to the action which we have taken by agreeing to pay the amount of money involved, the goods will now be released. I am getting a special quotation from the C.W.S. so that we may see the amount of money involved in connection with the transport of 750 tons of potatoes from Rouen to Cerbere. On the basis of the last consignment it does appear that it is going to be a very expensive item. Yours sincerely, Assistant Secretary. 292/946/32/144
