Description
Summary:032-0155-001 Secretary's. HVT/FC/EK/540. EB/IS/IB. 5th January, 1939. Mr. E. Bevin, Transport and General Workers' Union, Transport House, Smith Square, London, S.W.1. Dear Mr. Bevin, INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY FUND. HELP FOR SPAIN. Referring to your letter of the 3rd instant, we have just completed the final quotation for an order of nearly £7,000 worth of food for Spain. This has been sent in various consignments. The first, which has already arrived in Barcelona, is composed of 30 tons of dried cod, 60 tons of soap, 3 tons of ships biscuits and 1,000 gallons of cod liver oil. The second consignment is in regard to 60 tons of dried milk powder, and the acceptance of the estimate this morning is for 750 tons of potatoes which have been bought at an exceptional price through the Potato Marketing Board. As soon as we have confirmation in regard to the purchase of the potatoes a detailed press statement is to be issued which is already in draft form. In addition, we have in preparation a detailed statement for the information of our affiliated Unions concerning the work of the Fund during the past year. Yours sincerely, Assistant Secretary. 292/946/32/155
