Marchbank, Herbert Morrison, M.P. H. Scott Lindsay J.S. Middleton W.H. Stevenson (representing "Daily Herald") and other officials. 129. SPANISH CONFLICT. Mr. Middleton explained that the National Executive Committee had given a Dinner to the Fraternal Delegates on the previous night and that Senor de Asua and Senora de Palencia, who had been sent to the Edinburgh Conference as representing the Madrid Government had been present and reported on the position in Spain. A good deal of information had been elicited by subsequent questions and, having regard to the details thus obtained and in view of the statements made by the two Spanish representatives at the Conference that morning, it was thought that it would be well for the National Council of Labour to meet and consider the position. A lengthy discussion followed, during which the view was expressed that it was desirable that an interview should be sought with Mr. Neville Chamberlain who was acting for the Prime Minister during the latter's absence from London and it was RESOLVED: "That Mr. C.R. Attlee, M.P. and Mr. Arthur Greenwood, M.P. proceed to London immediately with a view to discussing the Spanish position with Mr. Neville Chamberlain". It was also agreed that the Press Department of the Labour Party should give consideration to the desirability of printing the speeches delivered by Senor de Asua and Senora de Palencia to the Delegates. This concluded the business.
