Eden Carlton-et-Parc Hotel Geneva NATIONAL COUNCIL OF LABOUR. PRESS STATEMENT 30th September 1936. In pursuance of the undertaking given at the Trades Union Congress at Plymouth to watch closely the operation of the Non-Intervention Agreement, the National Council of Labour met today to consider a report from their representatives who attended the joint meetings of the International Federation of Trade Unions and the Labour and Socialist International in Paris on September 28. The National Council of Labour are profoundly impressed, as they believe the British public are also, by the serious nature of the allegations made by Senor Alvarez del Vayo, the Spanish Foreign Minister and Spanish representative at the Assembly of the League of Nations, to the effect that the rebels are still being supplied with arms and munitions from countries, parties to the Non-Intervention Pact, while the Spanish Government is still deprived of these legitimate means of upholding its democratic authority. Further, in view of the fact that the French Government initiated the policy of non-intervention with the whole hearted support of the British Government, the National Council of Labour regard it as the imperative duty of these Governments to take the initiative immediately to have these serious charges investigated and the findings published without delay, and they urge the British Government at once to take steps to this end. Middleton. Tewson.
