Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): United Nations Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary Witness CC was imprisoned during the Rákosi regime. After the revolution he was captured and spent four weeks in a Russian military prison. Witness DD gave an account of the military operations he participated in as a freedom fighter. He was on a train to be deported to the Soviet Union on November 22 but liberated by freedom fighters at the border.
