Bram Fischer's journey from being at the heart of Afrikaner aristocracy to leading the South African Communist Party in the struggle against apartheid. Fischer led the defense at the Rivonia Treason Trial, arguably saving Nelson Mandela and other ANC leaders from execution. When all of Fischer's comrades were jailed or exiled, he took a defiant solitary stand, speaking out against the Afrikaner Establishment and the apartheid government. Pursued by the state's security police agents, for a while Fischer lived in disguise as apartheid's most wanted man. Finally, he was captured and sentenced to life imprisonmnet in 1966.
