Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): United Nations Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary Éva Szörényi, an actress of the Hungarian National Theater in Budapest and a member of the revolutionary committee of the Hungarian National Theater, made a statement about the causes and goals of the revolution, and the battles against the Soviet army in Budapest. The committee asked her questions about the situation of culture: literature and theatre in Hungary before the revolution. Zoltán Ipoly made his statement about the workers' councils and the Worker's Parliament of Budapest. The committee asked him questions in connection with the events he participated in or witnessed.
