Description
Summary:Extracts from Polish underground publications compiled and translated into English by the RFE Polish Publication Unit for broadcasting purposes. Introductions to most articles are provided by RFE staff, and items are compiled in issues based mainly on theme and date. A Questionnaire -- Answered by Bogdan Borusewicz[from: Nasz Czas, no. 31 (12 October 1985)]The Gdańsk biweekly "Nasz Czas" [Our Time], published by "members and supporters of Solidarity," prints the first reply to a questionnaire it sent to underground activists. Bogdan Borusewicz, a 37-year-old historian and a prominent member of the guiding body of underground Solidarity, the Interim Coordinating Commission (Tymczasowa Komisja Koordynacyjna), was arrested in mid-January. An Authority: A Conversation with Zbigniew Janas[from: Vacat, no. 30/31 (June 1985)]Zbignlew Janas, a worker from the Ursus Tractor Factory, was a member of the clandestine Regional Executive Committee of Solidarity for the Mazowsze (Warsaw) Region until the winter of 1984, when he decided to come out of hiding. This decision was approved by the clandestine commission and announced in the underground press at the time. In this interview, published in a sociopolitical monthly, Janas discusses the advisability of clandestine and overt opposition in Poland. The interview is topical in view of the recent arrest of one on the few remaining members of the Interim Coordinating Commission of Solidarity [Tymczasowa Komisja Koordynacyjna (TKK)], Bogdan Borusewicz.
