An Interview with Wiktor Kulerski[from: Kontakty, no. 10 (January 1984)]On 13 June 1986 Wiktor Kulerski, a member of Solidarity's Regional Executive Commission for the Warsaw region, was chosen by the Interim Coordinating Committee to replace Zbigniew Bujak, who had been arrested two weeks earlier. Kulerski, aged 51, is a former teacher and active member of the Underground Education Movement; in November 1985 he became chairman of the Independent Publications' Fund, which was created by the major Polish underground publishing houses with the aim of subsidizing unofficial publications and financing translations. This interview describes the Independent Education Movement and how it plans to counter Sovietization and encourage independent thinking. "Kontakty" is a monthly published in Gdańsk for teachers of the Independent Education Movement. The Verdict in the KPN Trial / by G. Renade[from: Tygodnik Mazowsze, no. 168 (24 April 1986)]The leading Solidarity underground weekly in the Warsaw region has published excerpts from the final statements made at the trial of five members of the Confederation for an Independent Poland (Polish acronym KPN) and has commented on the significance of the trial and verdict. The article is signed "G. Renade" (a pseudonym). All ellipses in this item were inserted by the editors of "Tygodnik Mazowsze." Freedom and Peace - A Conversation with Jacek Czaputowicz[from: Metrum, no. 52 (26 February 1986)]This is an interview with one of the members of the "Freedom and Peace" movement (Polish acronym WiP), who refuse military service or, in some cases, to swear the military oath pledging loyalty to the alliance with the Soviet Union. Several members of the movement have been imprisoned. "Metrum" [Measure or Gauge] is a periodical appearing every few weeks in the provincial town of Siedlce, southeast of Warsaw, and published by the Committee for Social Defense [Komitet Oporu Społecznego (KOS)]. Empires of Power and Their Citizens / by Dawid Warszawski[from: KOS, no. 89 (9 February 1986)]The biweekly of the Committee for Social Defense published in its 87th issue a polemical article by a well-known author who uses the pseudonym Dawid Warszawski. In reply to his generally pessimistic assessment of the Polish underground, the following article by the writer Stach Sarmata (pseudonym) answers the following questions: How do I see the present situation in Poland and how will it probably develop?; What is the role of the opposition in our country? I Read Therefore I Am / by Adam Uważny[from: CDN - Głos Wolnego Robotnika, no. 150 (12 April 1986)]The weekly publication of the Interfactory Workers' Committee of Solidarity, "To Be Continued - Voice of the Free Worker," contained a pseudonymous article by "Adam Attentive" on the importance of the underground press.
