Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): Béla Király; Federation of Hungarian Former Political Prisoners Details of the situation in Hungary which warrant the Hungarian question being placed again on the agenda of the General Assembly. So far: 2,140 people have been executed; 55,000 are in prison; the number of concentration camps has increased from three to seven; executions without trials; punishment is especially hard against students and intellectuals who made specific demands for changes to the system.
