Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): United Nations Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary Witness QQ was captured and interrogated by the ÁVH, then taken to the Soviet Union. Witness RR, an assistant to János Szabó, was captured and taken to the Soviet Union. Witness SS, an architect, made a statement about the fighting and the atrocities committed by the Soviet troops. Witness TT volunteered at the Péterfi Sándor Street Hospital to be a first-aid worker and nurse. She was captured and deported to the Soviet Union. Witness UU gave a statement about the events of the revolution, including a counter-demonstration organized by the Kádár government. Witness VV gave a statement about the atrocities he witnessed and was asked questions concerning military information he knew of. Witness XX gave an account of the events in Miskolc. Witness YY gave a statement about the events at Jászberény.
