Summary:In the cold winter of 1924, the old bolshevik Stepan Petrov with his wife and daughter walk to Moscow to give a letter from their fellow villagers to Lenin. The kulaks kill Stepan, but his wife Varvara and their daughter press on They arrive at Gorki where they learn of Lenin's death. They go to Red Square with hundreds of other people, and join Stalin with their vow to follow Lenin's path. In the rest of the film Varvara’s family lives through the socialist construction of a tractor factory in Stalingrad, they participate in WWII, and after the war they once again meet with Stalin.
