Summary:Continuation of the academic panel entitled “Meanings of 1989 and the Present Significance of the Past” which is part of the international conference "Between Past and Future: The Revolutions of 1989 and the Struggle for Democracy in Central and Eastern Europe", an event organized by CEU and the University of Maryland, held at CEU between 26th and 28th of March, 1999. The panel is chaired by Professor Vladimir Tismăneanu. The members of the panel are Jacques Rupnik (Institute of Political Studies, Paris), Tamás Gáspár Miklós (Georgetown University), Karol Soltan (University of Maryland), Daniel Chirot (University of Washington) and Sorin Antohi (Academic Pro-Rector at CEU). Excerpts from Karol Soltan’s, Daniel Chirot’s and Sorin Antohi’s speeches are available on this tape.
