Description
Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): United Nations Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary Tibor Legáth, liaison officer to Béla Király, gave his statement. He spoke about his arrest and imprisonment (1952-56), assaults by Soviet soldiers against civilians as well as the Red Cross ambulance corps, and his personal experiences in fighting. Witness BB, a doctor, participated in the revolution as a surgeon in a clinic. He was asked questions about medical supplies received from abroad, and about the patients the clinic handled. Witness AA was a university student and worked as a first-aid nurse in a hospital during the revolution. István Forgács was Minister Zoltán Tildy's political secretary from 30 October - 3 November 1956.
