Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): Leslie Munro Deeply moving speech about the importance of the Hungarian revolution for the whole of humanity. He links this anniversary with the anniversary of the entry into force of the United Nations Chapter. By this Chapter, the nations of the world dedicated themselves to certain purposes. In addition to peace, the other most important purpose is self-determination, and was the goal of the Hungarian uprising - to regain independence from foreign control.
