Description
Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): United Nations. General Assembly Although there are some improvements in the situation of the Hungarian people, their fundamental rights and essential freedoms were still being denied and are far from being restored; there is no full amnesty and the people who participated in the uprising are held as homicide criminals; the Soviet Government, in flagrant violation of the United Nations resolutions, is still maintaining troops on Hungarian territory. The Hungarian state remains a police state under alien domination.
